So, you took the time to reflect on what connection means to you and how you seek connection. If you are just joining the EYP community, I encourage you to complete the July 24th tip & tool before doing this exercise.
Today, you will learn a handful of strategies that can help you increase your sense of connection to others.
1- Initiate/take action: We often wait for the other person to reach out, say hello first, ask us how we are doing….Take a chance. Send that text! Start the conversation!
2- Join a group: Pick an activity you enjoy doing by yourself– and join a group that engages in the same activity. This can be scary, but you at least have some level of comfort in the activity you will be doing.
3- Connect with people who have similar life values: Pour energy into those connections that align with who you are and what you live by.
4- Be present and practice acceptance: We often think that connection only means seeking out social interactions with others. However, sometimes we can feel connected to others by simply being present. Being present allows us to accept people as they are. When you are in a place of acceptance, you can open yourself up to and empathize with others. Sometimes, simply seeing someone for the whole person they are can foster a sense of connection.
