When Forging Your Own Path to Pursue Your Passion Becomes the Only Option

I have quite the different story from most surfers. At 27 years old, I decided to pick up a surfboard for the first time and it changed my whole life.

Some would say I had the perfect life before surfing—a luxurious apartment in Los Angeles, a well-paying job, a stable relationship, and a “bougie” lifestyle. However, living the “perfect life” on paper doesn’t always translate into reality. There was always a void inside of me, something missing, and it didn’t click inside of me until I stood up on a surfboard for the first time.

So I started to surf. And upon entering this world of adult beginner surfing, I quickly realized that the community was SMALL.

I found that the prevalent issue within professional surfing lies in the lack of diversity of an athlete’s story, where success is predominantly associated with those who started their surfing journey at a young age and dedicated their upbringing solely to the pursuit of excellence in this sport.

After doing fairly poorly with my surf journey in the first year, I decided to go all in – quitting my corporate job, giving up my apartment, and see how far I could push my surfing journey. I moved to Brazil, I got a coach, and I devoted everything to this mission.

So, embarking on this journey, I didn’t know how to train or even where to start this journey…the roadmap simply did not exist. “So, I decided to forge my own”.

Now, with just 2.5 years of surfing experience, I dream to compete at a high level. I’ve invested everything in this mission and I want to show people that it’s never too late to pursue your passions! If you want something, if you really believe in yourself, I want to prove that anything is possible.
